Permaculture in Your Own Backyard.
There is a saying in permaculture: “All the world’s problems can be solved in a garden!”. Seems ridiculous, or at best naïve, but when explored through a fine microscope there are inspiring elements of truth in this statement.
In this workshop Bill will provide a foundational understanding of how soil and plants work together to meet their mutual needs. Since plants do not have a digestive system the rely on the soil to provide them with the water and nutrients they require. In exchange, the plants turn the energy from the sun into food for the soil’s microorganisms. If this process is encouraged along with natural and supportive techniques the speed of soil building can be increased ten-fold.
Bill will explain this premise and then take the attendees out into the garden to demonstrate the techniques used to achieve rapid soil building. All students will have an opportunity for some hands-on experience as well.
The permaculture homes and gardeners of the future may lead the way in demonstrating how we as humans can live abundantly well while also leaving the planet in better condition than when we arrived upon it.
Bill is a long standing and nationally recognized permaculture designer and teacher. He has been the primary permaculture designer at Bending Oak along with the founder. Bill is only at the farm a few times a year, so this is a great opportunity to learn directly from him as he is considered one of permaculture’s premier teachers.
